First national surfing and stand up paddle competition of India Concluded

Kovalam Beach, Thiruvananthapuram: Spice Coast Open, the first ever national surfing and stand up paddle (SUP) competition of India took place here. 

Tamil Nadu surfers grabbed the first position at the first ever national surfing and stand up paddle (SUP) competition of India, Spice Coast Open, which concluded on 5 May 2013 at Kovalam beach at Thiruvananthapuram. 

Over 100 athletes from across the country took part in the competition. Participants took part in various categories at finals in competitions which took place over three days time duration. Among surfers from different state, Karnataka and Kerala surfers were the winners. 

About Spice Coast Open 2013

• Spice Coast Open is the first official national competitive event of the sport. 
• It was organised by Surfing Federation of India (SFI). SFI is the body recognised by the International Surfing Association (ISA) along with state Department of Tourism.
• Spice Coast Open 2013 competition was inaugurated in Kovalam by former South African cricketer and surfing enthusiast Jonty Rhodes.
